It can be very difficult to keep the kids occupied, especially during weekends, after nursery/school time or if your children are homeschooled.

Sometimes they want to do something fun, and you don't always want something that's too much hard work. If you want to spend some time with your kids without spending lots of money, going out anywhere or getting messy, colouring pages are a great solution.

All you need is the colouring pages, which can be printed from this page, colouring pencils or pens which can be bought further down the page and somewhere to sit down and relax with the kids.

If they can stay quiet and happily colour in the pictures to show you afterwards, you can sit down and enjoy reading a book, having a drink or chatting on the phone to friends.

Tell your children that you would like to see what they've coloured in at the end. If you're not busy and want to get involved yourself, you could even colour in one of the colouring pages yourself!

In order to keep the mess to a minimum, use colouring pencils instead of felt tip pens. Colouring pens can easily get on kids' hands and clothes, which leaves you with lots of laundry. Some felt tip pens will even stain clothes, and the last thing you want is your child's new white shirt stained with a red pen!

Peppa Pig is a children's television programme. Each episode is approximately 5 minutes long. The show revolves around Peppa, an anthropomorphic female pig, and her family and friends. Each of her friends is a different species of mammal - their first name starts with the same letter as the type of animal they are. Peppa's friends are the same age as her, and Peppa's younger brother George's friend Richard is the same age as him. Episodes tend to feature everyday activities such as attending playgroup, going swimming, visiting their grand parents, going to the playground or riding bikes.

The characters wear clothes, live in houses, and drive cars, but still display some characteristics of the animals on which they are based. Peppa and her family snort like pigs during conversations, the other animals make their respective noises when they talk, with some exhibiting other characteristics, such as the Rabbit family's enjoyment of carrots. The Rabbits are also the sole exception to the rule of human-like habitation, in that they live in a burrow in a hill, although it does have windows and is furnished in the same way as the other houses...

Sometimes colouring can get a bit tedious, colouring, colouring, and colouring.

So why not make it a bit more exciting for your kids?

1. Have a competition. You be the judge and give a prize for the best colouring page. (But don't forget to give them all something for trying so hard!)

2. Try all different types of colouring pens and pencils. Felt-tip pens, crayons, just mix and match.

3. Try painting them. For this, you might want to stick the paper onto card, or print out the colouring pages on card.

Show them this picture to give them ideas of how to colour Peppa Pig and what colours and ideas to use. Give them other ideas if they're struggle. Point to things with different colours and get them thinking about what to do and how to colour the pictures and do the activities.

I've searched Amazon to find you the cheapest, and yet the best quality crayons. These are definitely the best ones I found. All the customers rated them 5-star, and they only cost just over $3. For 24 crayons! Wow!

As with the crayons, I searched again to find some great colouring pencils. Although more expensive than the crayons, they have excellent reviews and are also very affordable. As one customer puts it (review below), they work out to approximately 20 cents per pencil, which for great quality pencils is extremely affordable, especially when you consider the price of other colouring pencils.
